We all know that diet Coke does not contain any calories what so ever. but we don't really know how do they get the soft drink to be sweet. The way that they get the soft drink to be sweet is by using a sugar substitute named aspartame. This artificial sweetener has ZERO calories but is not the healthiest thing to use. The chemical reactions that aspartame produces are:

-METHANOL

-PHENYLALANINE
The problems that Methanol causes are:
-Vision Problems
-Confusion
-Headache
-Nausea/Vomiting

Phenylalanine is an amino acid that your body requires in small amounts. The only bad thing is that When somebody substitutes the daily water with diet coke, the amount of phenylalanine is much higher than the required dose. In high concentrations, phenylalanine damages your nerves, becomes a neurotoxin, lowers seizure threshold, inhibits reproduction of serotonin and causes mental retardation.
Aspartic Acid or Aspartate is also an amino acid that your body requires in small amounts, but in high concentrations are also neurotoxic. It also causes endocrine problems and genetic disorders.
This is one way of hoe diet coke differs from regular coke. Every time we hear the word diet we think that it leads to something healthy, but that's not the case with diet coke. Regular coke contains natural sugar that, off course, it has calories and its not really healthy, even though, that the artificial sweetener in diet coke contains zero calories the chemical reactions that produces are way worst than natural sugar.
COKE vs DIET COKE

COKE
-Carbonated Water
-Sugar(which can be sucrose or high-fructose corn syrup)
-Caffeine
-Phosphoric Acid V. Caramel (E150d)
-Natural Flavorings (which include coca leaf extract)
You might have heard, that ounce upon a time Coke contained cocaine. What you might not know is that Coke is still flavor with an extract from cocaine leaf, which it contains the secrete for the flavoring and it can really harm you some way. The carbonated water and caramel are meant for flavoring and they don't really hurt in a really bad way. Sugar is one of the ingredients that you should worry about, sugar can cause you to have diabetes, high blood pressure, and you can become overweight because of how many calories it has. Caffeine is also bad for your health, it can cause mental disorders, and sleeping disorders as well. The most dangerous ingredients of all is phosphoric acid; phosphoric acid is use to clean rusted metals and other types of metals. That means that it can be really harmful for you. -Aspartame (NutraSweet)
-Potassium Benzoate
-Citric Acid
As you can see, the ingredients in diet coke don't change a lot from coke, neither the flavor; but what really make diet coke have ZERO calories and still taste like coke? The answer is Aspartame. Aspartame is the technical name for artificial sweeteners, in this case NutraSweet. Aspartame is one of the most dangerous substance that is added to our foods and it has many side affects to it.

Neither Coke or Diet Coke can replace the healthy Water. Water is the best if you want to make a change in your diet, ofcourse it won't be easy at first but the longer you take the harder it would be to make a change.

COKE vs DIET COKE
Which is better for me to drink?
answer: none of them; water is the answer.
First we need to get to know what type of ingredients we are putting into our body.
Ingredients for Coke:
Carbonate Water, High Fructose, Corn Syrup, Caramel Color, Phosphoric Acid, Natural Flavors, Caffeine.
8 ounces (which is one serving) contains 100 calories all from 26 grams (6.5 teaspoons)
Ingredients for Diet Coke:
Carbonated Water, Caramel Color, Aspartame, Phosphoric Acid, Potassium Benzoate, (it protects taste) Natural Flavors, Citric Acid, Caffeine.
Even though, that Diet Coke has zero calories, it still contains really bad chemicals that can harm your body and your health. For example: both of the soft drinks contain Phosphoric Acid, which most of us know that it has been used in the past to clean, metals and its a really danger chemical that can prevent your body from using calcium. Another reason why Diet coke is not as healthy as it promise to be is because the artificial sweetener that it contains named, ''Aspartame". This dangers chemical is the reason why diet coke has the sweet taste of regular coke but with Zero calories, even though, this sweetener has many chemical reactions and can harm your body.
Even though diet coke has a lot of chemicals that can harm you is not really bad to make the switch from regular coke to diet coke. But drinking too much of it may cause you some problems, but drinking one can or tow of diet coke instead of regular coke con really save you some calories. But that doesn't mean that you can change water for diet coke, you still need to get the hydration that water brings to you.
